OK, gang.
Since this appears to be a coin minted by Great Britain for one of its colonies, then the Americas (places like Canada in the early 1900s, Jamaica, Bahamas, British Honduras, etc.) are all still in play.
As well as almost all of the English colonies minting between 1901 and 1953 in Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Oceania, etc.
(only RHodesia & Nyasaland is ruled out)

That 90% is telling us something. Not Canadian at 90% silver. I don't know if it deserves a question.

Canada sure has a lot of islands. And I think that at least until WWI. the coins may have been minted in the UK (please check on that)
I think the other Western Hemisphere possibilities may be eliminated by the date range? I don't see Bahamas, British VIrgin Islands or East Caribbean States coins in this date range.
Fiji has a whole lot of islands and issued coins in this date range. As did Hong Kong and Malaya and British Borneo.
Maybe Seychelles and some others?

Only the Edward vii 5 c 1905 is fits from Hong knog
All of Sarawak's coins were minted in Heaton but it is apart of an island not many islands.
Was this coin minted after 1936?

But apparently Heaton and The Royal Mint are not the same, looks like Newfoundland is the right direction. I'm going to guess this coin is a 1940 George VI 10 cent from Newfoundland. Edited by Gincoin43

I was shooting from the hip a bit earlier.
- Seychelles had coins under George VI which fit the date range, but not more than 50% silver. SO they are out.
- Fiji had 90% silver coins under Geoirge VI and is still in the running.
- Straits Settlements (listed under Malaysia in Numista) is definitely still in, with silver coins in 25, 50 cents and dollar issued under Edward and George.
As is Canada.
I am liking Fiji.
Was your coin circulated between 100 degrees east longitude and the Galapagos Islands (this span should cover both Straits Settlements and Fiji)?
