Spence was all over this one when he connected Tim Conway to Ensign Parker in McHale's Navy, which was set in New Caledonia. Captain James Cook made the European discovery of, and named, New Caledonia, on his Second Voyage aboard the HMS Adventure. In 1849 the crew of the U.S. ship Cutter were killed and eaten by natives in New Caledonia. New Caledonia doesn't have a champion rugby team.
