So based on this info, I am going to say no, Pachelbel had not written his Canon in D Major when this coin was struck.

Sorry about that. The wikipedia page for 1680 is more definitive. Sounds like we are down to 1658 to 1680 for the date.

Why did you post a picture of Loonie Lewie?

That was a bad hair day, but how do you like my cape. .

2 questions left, yikes.

This is what I got, 1658-1680, maybe even 1679 for the year range. 1/4 Thaler or less. From Austria,Habsburg. This fits the 8 letter question, where Austria alone does not.

So I'm thinking we have 4 coins to narrow down. 1658-1680.
¼ Thaler - Leopold I (Hall)
3 Kreuzer - Leopold I (St Veit)
3 Kreuzer - Leopold I (Graz)
1 Pfennig - Leopold I (St Veit)

Now what did I miss, and how do we do this.

I see many more coins still eligible:

1 pfennig
2 pfennig
1 kreuzer
3 kreuzer
6 kreuzer (or 1/10 thaler)
10 kreuzer
15 kreuzer (or 1/4 thaler)

All of them have many dates and types depending on the city. I would put the date range at 1658-1679 based on the wording of the Pachelbel question.

I'm still confused about whether the "8 letters" question is even relevant or not. The issuing authority would have been the Holy Roman Empire or, at the least, the Archduchy of Austria. It only means something if it applies to the city.
