Hello Everyone

I hope that you all had a wonderful Independence day!

I have a 1994 P that has a weird 9 in the date. I was wondering what you guys thought of it. Is it a strike through, lam error, or something else?

Thanks for your thoughts!

That's called a Die Chip. Happens when a small piece of the die breaks off.

I agree with e&v although if this extra part of the 9 is easily depressed with a wooden toothpick, then it would be a plating blister rather than a die chip.

Oh ok so this is similar to the ones from the 50's then right?

@spence I will double check that but I don't think it is the plating I have seen a bunch of those and this one seems different.

Thanks for the info those guys I am trying to make sure I get
My little details right. :)

Yes in the '50s, it seems like the cents dies were used beyond the point where they started to break down frequently. We see die chips on the dates fairly often here on CCF.
