I was going through the classified ads in a recent copy of Coin World. These help pay the bills for the print media but I was wondering just how effective are they..?

Have you ever ordered anything from a classified ad in a coin publication..? What do you think are the plus's and minus's of the classified ad.? What type of classified ad draws your attention first..?

I have run ads in most of the numismatic publications, and to be quite honest, the small ads in the back have brought a much higher return. Now some will disagree and with some companies using the major ads for many, many years at a substantial amount, let me offer this, all ads are tax deductable......

Local newspapers and small mailings such as the Pennysaver have brought us much higher returns than any numismatic publication.

while I have never pruchased a coin directly from a classified advrtisement, I have been able to find individuals who were willing to put forth the effort to find the coin(s) that I was searching for at the time. I have one such person on retainer at this time, so that the next time I want something special, he will be available in short order and I know the coin will match the rest of my collection. Just another way to meet the needs as they become evident.

We advertised in numismatic classifieds for a couple of months. We found that we got our best returns from our internet advertising.

I must say I READ the ads every week looking for items that most would not place in a large ad! Don't know how safe and secure some of these ads would be but they do offer a great amount of items you won't find any where else. I get a real kick out of some of the "trade" ads as they are very much tilted in favor of those running the ads! None the less, if one collects world coins, there is a section FOR US DARKSIDERS there!!!

It saw that crystalk. However it does cost the run the ad so a tilt in their direction is OK.
