Hi

I know next to nothing about coins, but I was going through my childhood collection this weekend and found a coin my uncle brought me back from China in 1988. Knowing my uncle, I doubt it's worth much at all, but I'd love to know more about it.

Googling got me nowhere productive other than finding this site. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Not a coin, but a charm.

Edit: used for feng shui decoration.

Thanks macmercury.

Looks like you're right. Seems awfully similar to the Annamese charm listed as #30 on this site: http://www.charm.ru/library/turk.htm, although mine has a couple extra characters in the lower middle portion.

Now I'm left wondering whether it's a 1960s reprint or some kind of original. Probably the former.

Thanks again!

I remember during the 80's traveling to Main land China, and exchanging a different currency used specifically in places that only allowed for foreigners. I had to present my passport in order to go into certain stores to make purchases, now a day it is a thing of the past.

The daily Chinese commerce are far advanced than we are here in the states, everyone there uses QR code and make transfers for purchases. And we are stuck with plastic.

Hi there, this is authentic one cast later Qing to Republic of China (1850 - 1945) periods.

It is a Shangui Charm / Amulet coin, not the cash coin, it is a very popular topic of the amulet coin at that time.

the obverse side is a Taoism spell, with the meaning " ask the protection from Taishang Laojun (a god in Taoism) to avoid the hurt / damage from the evil",

the reverse side is Ba Gua chart.

attached is one in my collection.
