A die marker is some detail that is used to distinguish between dies. Back when dies where hand finished, the shape of a leaf or an extra/misplaced dot can be used to tell them apart with great accuracy. Less so with modern dies, because there are so many used and there is much less hand work.
If you are talking about the marks in front of George's lips - that's just a contact mark (damage) from the reeding of another coin as they were dumped into or out of the giant bags or counting machines...
