It could be, people break up mint sets all the time for various reasons and put them into circulation. I can try to compare your picture to my 2005 mint set and see if there's enough similarities between the reflectivity and finish ect. The problem is though the "satin finish" wore off the dies quickly and in their infinite wisdom at the mint they felt the dies were still good to use for business strikes even though they couldn't be uses for mint sets anymore so there is also that working against us. You could have a die diagnostic for a pair of satin finish dies and no perceptible satin finish let's say. Same goes for some coins in mint sets. It's a bit too early for me yet, haven't had my coffee. Lol. In a bit I'll take a good hard look at my mint set and a business strike along side your find pictures and let you know what I think, but like I said this can be difficult to determine. You could be in between the two and the mint retired the die from mint set use and used it for business strikes after when their finish wore off and it was unacceptable for mint set coins. Nice pictures by the way! I could also probably use a picture of the coin edge as well generally mint set coins are struck well and have a really squared edge compared to business strike coins.. but business strike coins can exhibit that trait also... lol Edited by Big-Kingdom 07/14/2019 06:42 am Report this Post to the Staff

Here's satin finish. Then here's business strike. And then there's this which I found roll hunting about 12 years ago and I don't know exactly what to make of it. I'm guessing somewhere in between the two, maybe a worn out satin die they tried to repurpose for business strikes. I thought it was roller lines, but then I noticed it is on Lincoln's face and on the memorial building as well so I don't think it should be on the devices if roller lines so I'm thinking it's die abrasions maybe.. I don't know. I think yours falls into this category also, repurposed satin die for business strikes. Pictures below: I think yours exhibits the heavy ear, finely detailed hair, even the detailed neck beard like the satin finish strike, but it's just not satin finished like it should be. I kind of detect the same kind of diagonal lines on yours as my oddity example, just not as many of them. I'm not a professional but in my opinion your was a satin finish die and it was repurposed for business strikes when the finish wore down, like I suspect my oddity is also. I have no real evidence I can point to of this being the case though, just my suspicions, but hey someone has to do the work for finds to happen right?
