MS63 would be my guess but the negative reverse eye appeal could hold it to 62.

Is the flatness in the hair below "L" and above the ear a result of a poor strike or some other sort of force that smashed it ? I thought the CC's were usually solid strikes. Thanks in advance for the help.

Many CC's are well struck but there are wide variations of course. This one has an average strike at best and perhaps below average.

Wow thanks for pointing out the weak detail over the ear in the hair. My newbie eyes didn't notice it. Now I see it and also I see the weakness of the strike under Liberty in the hair detail! Now I know what to look for!

I think it's technically a MS64 but I don't care for the look of the coin, IMO low eye appeal, shouldn't have bearing on the grading but it does seem to so I'd go MS63 as well.

I agree GrapeCollects! I actually like the purplish toning on the rev. The TPG's definately take eye appeal into consideration from what I've read! I'd be pretty happy if I squeaked out a 64 for sure!

As someone who really appreciates patinated coins I think the reverse is really attractive!
