I just got a microscope in the mail today and was excited to see this:

1864-L-Indian-Head---Opinions-On-Variety?

Any opinions on what variety this is and if it is indeed a 1864 'L'? Is there a way to determine the rarity? Would this coin be worth sending in to a grading service?

I've been collecting since the late 80's, but have recently found a renewed interest.

Here is the full coin:

I apologize in advance if I'm posting something obvious or asking a dumb question (as a Coin Community novice).

Thanks for your input!

This is most likely S-10a, but could be S-10b (they share the same obverse). Is the reverse in normal "upside down" alignment?

Thanks, John1 and GrapeCollects! Coinfrog, it does have the normal reverse, so I'm guessing it's a S-10a. Would this mean there should be a die crack on the reverse?

I appreciate the help!

Not necessarily - die stage A does not show the crack.
