I've posted a new topic twice today, and it has disappeared both times. I've looked everywhere I can think of, but can't find them.

They were both attempts at starting a new thread for error coins.

Any ideas as to why they keep disappearing?

I looked at the two you had that were removed (same topic, posted twice).

They were removed because they are way too general. They are whole forums devoted to that topic. In other words, the topics are way too general and will only dilute the more specific topics in those forums.

Make sense?

Yeah, I sent you an email.

The problem is fantastic coins will get completely lost 5 posts after they are posted.

Another problem is that new members will be drawn to it since it will have hundreds of pages. 95% (maybe even higher) of new members' error coins are not errors at all so they will just clog it up terribly. Plus they'll get like 2 answers and everyone will move on to the next coin posted.... they won't be satisfied with one or two answers so they'll then post a new topic and upload all the pictures again which is a tremendous waste of disk space.

In hindsight, I wouldn't have allowed most of those type topics we have going on now. We have lots of topics with hundreds of pages of posts that likely have hundreds of great coins in them that are now completely lost. Like on page 197 of a 400 page topic. If the coin had it's own topic, it would continue to get the attention it deserves.

That makes perfect sense.

Thanks to both of you for the quick replies. The next time I start a new topic, I'll be more specific and try not to cause any traffic jams.

This is all true @bobby, but I would also say that for me it actually in kinda nice to be able to look at a huge collection of coins that have images of e.g. a lion on them. Yes I can get that somewhat with a numista search, but it is nice to have that here too. I've done similar things with threads that ask folks to post their coins from a specific reference http://goccf.com/t/269713), and again it is nice to have all of that content in a single place.

For sure there is downside to the aggregate threads, but there is some upside too.

That's pretty specific and wouldn't be an issue.

The latest acquisition topic is one that I wouldn't have let go in hindsight. If it's a cool coin it should have it's own topic with an appropriate title.
