1962-D Roosevelt Dime, What Kind Of Error Is This?

NewbieCoiner808 Valued Member United States 463 Posts	Posted 07/18/2019 08:56 am I'm going through my Roosevelt dimes and sorting them by date and came across this one. The "2" on the date is way out of place. The last pic is NOT of this coin, it is how every other coin of that year looks just for reference. Big-Kingdom Pillar of the Community United States 1667 Posts	Posted 07/18/2019 09:23 am The whole section is varying degrees of smashed flat especially the 2 but also the JS of the designer initials. the 2 hasn't moved it's gotten flatter and wider and dragged to the rim from the hit spacing between the 6 and the two is relatively the same so it likely took a hit glancing off it in a southeasterly direction. Other than this, a slightly misaligned obverse die that doesn't add a premium to the value of the coin either. Still an interesting find, there's a whole lot of weird damage out there you come across coin roll hunting, and I kind of enjoy trying to figure out how it happened if I can.
