Nice! Maybe last year's release of the 1966 Decimal Pattern Set by the Perth Mint has fuelled interest (which, incidentally I find to be a very nice set and secured one to go with my dollar). I now often see Goose dollars go for silly prices on ebay. Or buyers list them at $2200 and just wait for someone to pay that. So yes I feel lucky I got one when I did!

was speaking to a well know and respected dealer early this year and he said that the value of the goose dollar is wrong in the latest McDonald catalog mr McDonald run out of time and mad a few errors in the book and when sending it to the publishers he sen the old value prices and not the current. the true values of the coins are in the range of $1500 of a unc coin and $2300 of a proof.
last year a proof went for 2600$ at downies auction in Melbourne

No Kidding? For an original cased speciman, I imagine? I wish Mr McDonald would take a bit more care with his editing. I have spotted several errors with pictures and descriptions, but since I use the book as the guide I wouldn't pick up on price errors so much. Does not give so much confidence now!

Greg is a one man band when it comes to his catalogue, and a few mistakes were made this time round as he did run out of time by underestimating how long it would take to change everything to colour. He is working on the new edition right now, so if you have found some mistakes, have a look here to see if someone else has already found them, if not, add to the list. http://www.acbo.com.au/forum/viewto...?f=49&t=1045 These pattern dollars have risen in price very quickly in the last few years and pinning down an exact value is proving difficult for everyone at the moment. I have seen them on ebay with a buy it now for $1,150, and I have seen them in Klause Fords catalogue for much more.

1500 for the milled uncirculated specimen, 750 for the plain edge proofs and 10 in gold proof. I managed to pick up a proof and unc example in NGC slabs in January for pretty reasonable prices. This is the UNC specimen.

I'm resurrecting this thread, rather than add one more. The CCF Archive has some great articles about the Australian 1967 "Goose Dollar". If you get this far, you will have noted prices during the last few years. Well, here's an update: two items closed on the same day on ebay, a few weeks ago - Item number: 330611196051DOLLAR WITH CASE, maroon, milled Bid history: 44 bids winning bid: AU $2,365.00 14 Sep, 2011; 13:18:28 AEST and, 17 minutes later - SWAN GOOSE PROOF DOLLAR WITH CASE, green, plain edge Item number: 330611199373Ended 14 Sep, 2011; 13:35:06 AEST Bid history: 61 bids Winning bid: AU $2,650.00 so, what'll the next one fetch ?
