Hi Guys,
Can anyone shed any light on this coin? The base metal is copper. It has a yellow fleck imbedded into the centre of the coin. It's never tarnished. Also the word GILT has been stamped on the coin. The area around the word isn't raise and the other side doesn't show any unevenness so it appears that it was done at the time of minting?
Thank you in advance.

Hello and

It looks to me as though it's been gilded and mounted as a button or cuff link. There was a similar thread about an 1897 farthing recently:

Thanks. Looks like they've being doing this to coins for some time. I've had this coin for around 50 years and the previous owner was a WII soldier.
