Not entirely for sure what you mean but I'm pretty sure the half circles are just PMD, it's just damaged.

The WE in IN GOD WE TRUST, is there, but very faint. That part of the coin looks like it was Struck Through Grease. The half circle, as stated, is PMD.

Or vending machines wore that off. Back then they were used a lot to by cold drinks at that time, causing coin wear.
