Hi DJ,
As an ex-subscriber to CW I really cannot recommend one over the other. I never was a subs for NN, but I can tell ya I will never subs with CW again.

2 reasons: 1--They eliminated their CW forum. And 2--They have turned to much into advertising & lack quality articles issue after issue..

Much like ANA has by trying to make a buck at the expense of "Coin News". By that I mean ANA supposedly joined ebay 4 example but yet they do nothing to help police ebay, but yet I bet they get coin ($) from ebay. Then you also have them get paid by NGC for "the only approved coin grading" company that a TPG can slap ANA labels into their holders. It's all about money.

Coin-World-Vs.-Numismatic-News

I think commercialism if you will, is destroying out great hobby--

I take both and prefer CW due to its wider depth of world coinage. NN offers free classified ads as an added benefit as well. Starting to see much more information concerning the Darkside as more and more Americans are finding value in foreign coins and in this area CW is leading the pack. Like I said I take both and am "Hooked" on both. They both have pros and cons so you, as the subscriber, should try both and then make up your own mind! I usually get one on Mon. or Tues. and the other on Fri. or Sat. so I get my coin fix twice a week and stay up on all the latest news! Guess I am a coin junkie as I can't walk by coin magazine on a rack either!!!
Rest in Peace

I like them both but prefer CW. I still like Dave Bowers column and the variety of articles. I love the "highlighted" coins each month as well as getting the getting the Coin Values Mag. Mike

I like CW. I subscribed from the first issue, and have No. 1, Vol. 1 stashed away somewhere.

I no longer subscribe, but buy a magazine when I stop at the coin store.

However both are good, and I'm usually not disappointed with either one.

My wife bought me a subscription to NN for Christmas. I enjoy it for the fact that is gives me something coin-related to read every week. NN is just like the title says- it is very coin news related. You get all of the release dates and mintage figures from the Mint, all of the latest auction sales, and new finds. It doesn't have the nice glossy coin pictures (it is newspaper stock) and articles that the monthly mags have but it does have a short article pertaining to a particular coin type each week. I cannot attest to CW as I have never subscribed to it. If you are a numbers and news junkie, NN is nice. If you like the nice glossy coin pics and articles, a monthly mag would probably be better.

I used to subscribe to both CW and NN. After a year, it became kind of redundant to have 2. So I went with CW. Both are good but CW was just the one I liked better.

I subscribe to CW but have recently ordered a trial of five issues for $5 of NN and got the first issue last week. I still think I like CW better and I didn't see Dave Bowers column in NN. I guess CW has dibbs on that one.

There are also monthly magazines like Coinage, COINS ( also published by Krause)

There's also the NUMISMATIST but I let my ANA membership expire for reasons that are a secret.

I have written reviews on both mags and placed them side by side. You can find these reviews here:

Bottom line: I chose to subscribe to CW, but NN is very good too.
