But I love hearing how people got started collecting. In the mid-70s, I found an 1869 IHC in some change. A couple years later, when I was 9, I worked selling Sunday papers on a corner on Saturday nights (parents would probably be hauled off to jail these days for letting their kids do that) and frequently got silver in change - primarily from older customers. Luckily my mom took me to a coin show and my grandmother frequently gave me Ike's and Morgans, so I was off and running. Before I knew better, I tried cleaning a lot of low quality coins. Glad I know better and a lot more these days.

This one has come up again and again, but it seems like it has been long enough for any recent topic to go dormant.

With that being said, my story is a very close click away if you know where to look.

@jbuck, sounds somewhat familiar...Love my Ike's. Heading to Vegas on Thursday. Only wishing there were still boxes of silver to search.

Looks like you got it!

Good luck in Vegas. Whatever happens there stays there, but the coins should come home with you.
Rest in Peace

note to hullamania: I hope you like grasshoppers - Vegas is currently overrun with them.

I'm from that generation. What comes to mind now and again is how menial jobs like the paper route have all but vanished in today technology world. For many of us it was the primary source for finding keepers pulled from circulation. Fewer coin boards to fill. My how things have changed.
