When did the counterfeit 1928 start showing up? I got mine raw from a local dealer something like 15-20 years ago. Will I need to worry about it being fake? I'll have to go home now and get it out amd check it under a loupe.

Thanks -

You may not have to worry about a counterfeit, but the biggest issue is an altered coin, i.e. the removal of a mintmark. That has been happening for many years when a Philly issue turns out to be a rarity.

The counterfeit I returned to the ebay seller has been relisted as genuine.
Beware ! This is an altered 1928-S. Beware of this coin and seller. I have no respect for this seller, for knowingly (after given proof and affidavit from an NGC dealer) putting this coin back in the market. You can't blame ignorance on this one.

Hi Goldman:
Your idea of completing a Peace Set is a very good idea.
I live, far away from you and I have completed a Set of Peace.

Many Members have given wonderful advice especially 1sikevo. For the Key dates, it is better get a certified coin.
Wish you good luck
Sincerely
George/India
