1909 S VDB

1. The coin in the first post of this thread grades NO HIGHER than VF20. I don't know what the rest of you are seeing as EF-AU, but that simply isn't the case.

2. The coin has been cleaned at one time, which may very well affect your ability to get it into any kind of reputable slab.

3. I'm a little iffy as to whether this coin is even genuine. It looks like it could have an added mintmark, but it's very hard to determine by images alone.

Best bet would be to send it in to ANACS for either a grade or a 'genuine' holder. Fee is the same for each, and it will definitely come back in a holder that way. If you send it in for a grade only and they determine it to be a cleaned coin, you may get the coin back without a holder and be out the money.

Well how much is the fee? and how long would it take?

Also I'm pretty sure this coin genuine, its from someones private
collection. He took pride in his coins and I highly doubt he would
have a fake coin in one of his books.

You'd have to join ANA or PCGS to have it graded. I think you should find a local coin dealer you trust and have them submit the coin for you. Just ask them approximately what they think the fee would be. Also, ask them what their opinion is on the coin.

The pictures are not all that great, but I don't really see any indication of cleaning. It seems to have a nice, even brown surface to me. Detecting a cleaned coin can be very difficult without having it in-hand. Chuck might see something I do not, but he is the forum authority on Lincoln's beyond any doubt.
