2008 United States Mint Silver Proof Set™ Available August 26
Annual set includes 14 coins, seven of them struck in 90 percent silver

WASHINGTON - The United States Mint announced today that sales for the 2008 United States Mint Silver Proof Set will begin at noon (ET) on Tuesday, August 26, 2008. There is no household limit for this annual set.

This year's set, priced at $44.95, includes proof versions of the final five commemorative quarter-dollar coins to be issued in the United States Mint's 50 State Quarters® Program, the Kennedy half-dollar, and the Roosevelt dime, all struck in 90 percent silver. The set also includes proof versions of the Golden Dollar featuring Sacagawea, the Jefferson 5-cent coin (nickel), the Lincoln one-cent coin and four Presidential $1 Coins.

Each coin that the United States Mint Silver Proof Set comprises has a finely sculpted and frosted foreground against a mirror-like background, giving it a distinctive cameo appearance. Each coin bears the "S" mint mark of the United States Mint at San Francisco. The coins are sealed in three presentation cases and packaged in one box along with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Customers can make the 2008 United States Mint Silver Proof Set a part of their collections by ordering via the online catalog at http://www.usmint.gov. The United States Mint will also accept orders at the toll-free number, 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may order at 1-888-321-MINT (6468). All domestic orders will be assessed $4.95 for shipping and handling.

I'm on the subscription plan !.......excited to see the "silver" Alaska Quarter ! Wooooooeeeeee!
So, next we've got the U.S. Territories huh ?.......oh boy...then the "Parks Qtrs."......this is never gonna end !....

I hereby rename this as...... "The Neverending Quarter Series" !

When will they let it return to normal ?......In my lifetime I hope !

All those in favor of "newly designed coins" every year for the rest of your lives say........."AYE" !

Has the public ever voted out of office, a politician or a group of em' on a committee, simply because of horrid ideas on our American Coinage and paper currency that disgusts and upsets the general public SO MUCH, that in outrage, they get rid of em?

Nope... those appointed Executive branch positions are a sweet gig. Besides, the general public doesn't even look at coins. I bet if you stood on a street corner and polled 100 random passers-by, less than 25% could tell you what design is on the back of a dime.

Personally, I have no problem with annual design changes, but having four or five different designs in a year is just excessive. Having the exact same design for 50 years at a stretch gets kind of dull. I just wish we would go back to Lady Liberty instead of a bunch of dead guys... talk about metaphors.

Still, I like the silver proofs... guess it's time to warm up the ol' credit card again.

My local coin dealer sells mint and proof sets for less than you would pay for item + shipping from the mint. He may not make much of a margin or any at all, but it gets people in the door. More traffic = More sales.

Eaglefoot, I would like to see my face on the reverse, then they can change it back. I'm not so sure how much of a draw the mint would make off me, prob the same as the Territories. ;)
Rest in Peace

I am normally a humble person, but I would like to see my face on a US coin. Guess I will just have to marry Hillary Clinton by 2012 to get on the Gold Spouse Series. Hehehe

UNCIRCULATED SETS? or proof sets? If you like collecting them then they are worth buying. If you would have bought 10 in 1999 you could have sold out and made good money! I have decided that the year I think I want buy might be the one that goes up so I buy to complete a set

Is Hillary a participant in an "off-mainstream" Mormon sect ?
Can she have more than one husband since she's a Senator ? Will she have to move to Utah and be a Senator there to have 2 or 3 husbands ? She "carpetbagged" New York, being from Arkansas, so she could do it in Utah........

Make sure you invite all of us to the wedding neversuited1 ......I'm not a Democrat, but I'd attend this one !...

What about the mustache ?.........
