Hi guys I was coin roll hunting and found an unusual penny. The back is normal however the front is practically blank. When I was sorting I thought it was blank till I held it in the light and saw a very faint yet flat impression of lincoln and the front etc. However, the front is very smooth flat and it doesn't look scratched at all whatsoever..also the rim is not flattened down..the face is just like totally smooth and flat? ..any ideas?

I would have to see an image to help, but it sounds like a coin struck through a capped die....an error. An image is absolutely necessary to make any educated determination.

Without the rim, the coin would probably have been artificially worn/sanded down but the rim makes it very interesting- potentially a capped die but to determine an error like that, good pictures are a must
