Hey everyone.......Just checking in. Still have not started collecting again since I got robbed of all my Morgans & Peace dollars in July. I had a decent collection with a bunch of cool rainbow toned coins and such. I have looked at coins again but I don't know where to start again and know it will take a lot of $$$ to get back to where I was. Plus I did a lot of trading to get some of the stuff. Trying to get back into it but having a hard time. I may just try to collect junk silver Dollars & 1/2 Dollars just to amass a huge quantity and not worry about dates or condition. What do you think ?

Exercise patience and seek quality over quantity. You'll be happier with that decision in the long run.

Personally, I think I would be the same way and not know what to do. For someone that does not collect anything they would probably say 'what's the bid deal? Start over". But it is not just the collection, it is the time, thought, learning and the experience in whole. It makes it that much more difficult because they took a piece of your life that you can never get back, yes you can start over, and yes you should, but it will be tough, and hopefully will give you new desires in what you collect.

with both comments! Like any tragedy, I wish I could say or do something to lessen the hurt. However, the reality is that it will take time to heal. I hope you can get right again soon; and when you do, keep to what makes you happy and not what will just get you by.

I remember your story--your antique shop got hit, correct? I know the feeling...I got robbed as a teenager, and did not return to collecting until last year.

Try a different series to get back in the saddle. I'm sure that eventually you will go back to the silver $'s but in the meantime, try another coin to get back in the grove.

Kurt, that is right......Took them all. They were my personal collection and I had the prices jacked way up. If they were going to sell, it was for full RedBook Value. Mostly, it just attracted a lot of attention and got people inside. As for collection other coins, not really interested. Not to knock anyones interest or collection but I can't spend a lot of money on a penny or a dime. At least with the Morgans, I had a chunk of silver in my hand.

And like Kurt, I remember your story too... ...that is heartbreaking for us all..... You might be just fine to "start out" with cheaper Morgans and Peace dollars.......and hey.....now that silver has taken a dive, "junk silver" could be the "key" to eventually getting yourself back into building something again.

You could start with foreign coins. Plenty of silver and gold ones to choose from, and a completely different direction to head in. New challenges that don't remind you of your loss might help rekindle the spark.

Latman, I have HUNDREDS of foriegn coins and I just can't get ito them. Just too many to choose from. I'll probably start out again buying some slabbed Morgans. Think I am going to try and only collect the colorful toned coins. I was heading that way before......
