This is the second nickel in the group of 11. 1944d DDO, EDS & MS Jefferson nickel similar to DDO-003. V V link to 003 http://www.varietyvista.com/04a%20J...4DDDO003.htmSome important differences on mine are mint mark location and an RPM, no die crack on the building entry, no separation on the W of WE, Mine even seems to have some doubling of the tops of some letters well separated to the north. If so it might even be a triple DDO. Those letters are IN, WE (7th image), TRUS. Some of it is clear and some is faint but I'm not sure how much will show up on my images. There is even notching evident on the top of the date in the fourth image. Nickels aren't something I collect so any comments, insight or info is greatly appreciated. I don't see the DDO, maybe the doubled master die again. I'm pretty sure if the DDO was paired with a RPM it would be mentioned. Definitely a RPM though, so still a nice find! |

So the notching on the top of the date and the upper serifs of the ST are part of the Master die doubling?
I'll put that one on the list to get clearer images.
(Similar to the master die doubling on the 1972 memorial cents.)
I'll have to check and see if the RPM is on the list at VV.

Thanks also to E&V, Tanman and Coinhunter27 for looking and the comments. Especially like to thank Tanman for the links because they clearly show the same doubling on mine which evidently is the master die doubling. I did check out VV RPM's and seems like mine is a match for 003 stage A (EDS). None of the markers for other stages are evident on my coin. I was so excited about how nice the doubling was I didn't even consider master die doubling.
