Here is 1722 Woods Hibernia Halfpenny W12730. The reverse appears to be a misaligned die (is that possible in this time period?), but I do not understand what is an explanation for the extra thickness in the bases of the 2s? Damage? Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 08/13/2019 09:25 am Yes misaligned dies are possible with early coins such as this one. The dies had to Locked down in their holding cups and this was done with set screws. These set screws would also adjust the position of the die in the cup and with relation to the other die. Tighten the screws setting the die too far to one side and you get a MAD error. As for the thickness of the bottom of the 2's I would say that die chips have occurred between the base of the 2 and the neck about it.
