Hello fellow numismatists, has anyone seen this type of coin? It looks like a Lincoln Penny reverse is imprinted on the relief of the Washington quarter Obverse. Specifically: How do I categorize this coin? Is this a true mint error and how does this occur? Should I send it for grading? Thanks in advance, Steve

To CCF! No, this is just a damaged coin. PSD. Appears to show glue/residue of some type. Definitely not worth getting it graded by a TPG. It would be a huge waste of time and money. Your coin is only worth face value, since it's only damaged.
Errers and Varietys.

 >> With the black corrosion, It kinda Looks like a coin that might have been sitting in a change holder in a car with a cent on top and soda spill or glue...

Thanks for your input. Sorry the pictures are not be best and the coin is heavily toned, which makes this diagnoses more difficult. The Lincoln memorial image is not indented into the relief only the image. Is it possible that a Lincoln Penny fell into the Washington quarter die and left that image, which was then passed on in the next strike?

That scenario is highly unlikely. I had a Lincoln Cent that looked almost exactly like your coin and it is a stain where one coin sat on top of the other with some type of liquid between them that had dried and left the stain behind.

That's probably the explanation. Important thing is that it's damaged and just a spender. to the CCF!

Thanks for the explanation Jim, I was hoping someone else had seen this before. Your assessment seems to be the most plausible.

to the CCF! If the darker area is raised, it's probably an adhesive residue where a penney was glued to it. If not, then Jim0815's explanation fits best.
