Hi all, just a quick question. Does anyone use 'den of antiquities' for their Coins? I believe the seller is on ebay and vcoins and also has a shop in Whitby. Thanks

@FD, I haven't, but when I use the CCF search box with the keywords "DEN OF ANTIQUITIES", I get this one prior thread: http://goccf.com/t/154787

I haven't purchased from them. Personally I have had ongoing concerns about a number of antiquities that they've stocked through the years. But I think VCoins admin does a better job vetting coins* than antiquities, so I suspect their inventory of coins is fine. I have no idea about their pricing, though.
* Referring here to the admin's vetting of the authenticity of coins - not their patination, which they don't seem to give a hoot about.

denant is just one of dozens of sellers on ebay that I have purchased coins from. Only one problem ever, a coin mixup, which they made OK. My issue with these vetting threads, is how do you vet the people making comments...the person that posts the most knows the most for instance, you don't know me, so my saying that I have had many problem free purchases from denant should not mean much.

Quote: how do you vet the people making comments...the person that posts the most knows the most At the risk of hijacking the thread by going off on a tangent (sorry if it seems that's the case, FuzzyDuck), I think the answer is straightforward enough: You ask for honest opinions, you get honest opinions, you see if there is consensus - and, if there isn't, you weigh the responses, determining for yourself which opinions seem to strike a chord. If expressed thoughts come from individuals with some history of well-considered responses and support to the membership (the search functions at CCF and other forums certainly make such research easy enough), so much the better. If on top of that they have some relevant credentials, that's icing on the cake, of course. As for the number of posts of members: personally I'd like to believe that folks who have stuck around and contributed through the years know (or have learned) a thing or two. Some of the members here with big (and growing) numbers are indeed scary smart. I don't think there are any dolts here with 10,000 posts. But, then again, an experienced professional numismatist may have only a couple posts. If David Sear joined CCF, he'd begin with a single post. So I'd agree that the number of posts doesn't seem to be a trustworthy, or at least conclusive, litmus. Better that the OP gets get to know posters through their history of contributions. In the end we are all free to reject responses - even while appreciating the time posters took to offer them.

Quote: I know of you Victor. I have had no problems with you Thank you John. As pleasant a fellow as I usually am there are some people that would have complaints about me. On the seller side, it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, that many dealers keep lists of people that it is best to not do business with.
