Hi,

I took a closer look at one of my barber halfs last week and noticed some die polishing lines in the ear.

Do (some) barber collectors count this thing as a variety?
I did some googleing but all I found was varieties regarding date placement.

It's a 1895-S.

Please search die chip for lots of examples. A die chip is usually a small piece of the die that has been broken off and flattened by the strike and appears thereafter unless the chip is polished away.

Please provide complete photos of obverse and reverse. I don't care for the surface irregularities.

I'm wondering about a possible die clash. The ear is pretty much opposite the horizontal lines of the shield on the reverse. The center of the ear is a very low relief area of the obverse so die clash marks in that spot would be possible. A die clash does not create a variety.

I didn't think pictures of the full coin was necessary since my question was about what I thought was polishing lines.

But here is the pictures I posted awile back in the gradingforum.
