This appears to be a crudely cast, copy of a Lima, Peru two reales purportedly from the 1790s. Counterfeiters usually would back date their coins in the hope of confusing hard wear for the shallow impression and lack of detail the cast counterfeits exhibited. If caught the maker of this counterfeit two bits would be sentenced to death, back in the day. It is hard to tell whether this is modern or old. I'd like to think of it as old and dangerous, the product of a novice counterfeiter, who may not have gotten away with this sort of deception for long. You will need to start a "black cabinet" of counterfeits for your educational use. These are no longer "current" money so as long as you do not try to spend it, you should be perfectly safe.
