I've been out of the loop for a few years and I'm starting to dip my toe back into the pool. I've noticed quite a few coins graded as MS66+. Is this a MS66 and a half? What is the premium for the "+"? Has grading mintstate coins evolved to this exact of a science? I know that the Sheldon scale sucks for mintstate coins with only 10 points reserved, but this is bizarre.

Not exact at all. Just an indication of what the grader ( TPG star or otherwise) feels is a really primo example of the grade.

Thanks Bosox. I guess that eye appeal is still subjective, last white vs. attractive toning. Is anyone working on AI to grade coins yet?

What year did this happen? I guess that I may have to resubmit my old holders for a "+" designation. Another money maker for PCGS.

+ grades have been around for many years now. PCGS has the added criteria that they have to have exceptional eye appeal as well.

AI grading is not something anyone should want
