CONECA has given me permission to post this article. I see no way to post a .pdf, so I am using a .jpg format.

The section where it mentions the ability to hold the melt at a specific temperature and not having to stir the melt is probably the most important part. Most laminations are probably the result of trapped gases or foreign contaminantes in the ingot. Being able to give the melt time for the gas and contaminates to separate results in much fewer laminations. This also explains why we see much fewer laminations in ALL modern coins that in older coins even of the same composition. If we were still making bronze or brass cents though, we would probably still have trouble with laminations on those. Brass and bronze can't be held at its high melt temperature for very long because it is considerably higher than the boiling point of the zinc or tin, so they would be constantly boiling off out of the melt. The longer you hold the melt at temperature the lower the zinc and tin percentage becomes.

Point 1: I do not claim laminations are impossible on copper plated zinc cents, only that they are resistant.

Point 2:
While the appearance of your coin is similar to lamination on copper cents, it does not appear to go deeper than the plating, so I think it is a plating issue such as peeling and not a lamination

Dave's errors - my position is that your coin is a plating issue and not a lamination at least in the sense the word is applied to copper cents. I will certainly reconsider if Mike Diamond attributes your coin as a lamination. The
