As before, I'm new to this site. So far I'm very impressed with what I see. Very helpful on many varieties of coins. I probably will be annoying with some questions but, you got to learn sometime. Anyway....what about this quarter? Acid or something? It weighs 4.7 grams. Thanks.

It looks like it spent a fair amount of time in the salt water to me, I've found coins on the beach with that same texture when I go metal detecting.

Undoubtedly environmental damage - exactly what caused it is anybody's guess.

My view is generally straight forward - if the coin is damaged, does it really matter what damaged it?
