OK, I have read much about grading companies...bad and good. This one is from NNGS I did my best on the pics. Please help with an opinion on the grading. From what I can see...FBL is legitimate. Not sure about the MS65, No major marks and does have high luster. Thanks for any help. Thanks Atlas, I'm still learning to take pics of coins. Funny...the extreme close-ups were the easy part. Remember this is in a slab. It does have a couple little marks on the obverse to the left of and on shoulder. Here is the best pics I can get for now....the last full coin shots were from the scanner. Thanks again and I hope I'm adding this page right Image: 1962fblslab1.jpg25.94 KB Image: 1962fblslab2.jpg26.93 KB

Based on the obverse photo, there looks to be some serious scratches in the left field which would definitely mean less than 65. To make 65, such scratches would need to be considerably less pronounced. I know a lot more about WL halves, but such scratches likely means it is somewhere between 63-64. Like many coins with such scratches, it is a shame because it looks to be a nice coin otherwise. The NNGS grade should be ignored, in my opinion.

Even though I'm pretty new to this....I agree and appreciate the response. I figured it wouldn't make the grade but have not had much practice in true grading. Not much help on other sites. Thanks for the help

flyagi, I have some more bad news for you ... the coin is not FBL. I've highlighted the filled-in area on the bell lines. To be "FBL" the lines must be unbroken/unfilled all the way across the bottom of the bell. Some TPG's just grade the bottom set of lines; others, both sets. In any case, the bottom set of lines on your coin appear filled in the highlighted area. Sorry! And welcome to the forum.

Thanks SeatedNut for pointing out exactly what I was thinking. My thought was- "all of these nice closeups and none of them show the left side of the bell crack where weakness typically occurs" The grade is obverse limited with that chatter by IN, MS62/3 no FBL but the reverse is quite nice. I sure hope you didn't pay anything close to MS65FBL money for it...

Thanks for the info...didn't leave out L/S pics on purpose....Thought I had all pics in...anyway, please take note that about 3 weeks ago,I had to look up what FBL meant Here are a few more pics of L/S only. Does it look like full lines with scratches though it...and if so, what does that do for the FBL grade. I have to ask to learn thanks for any help. Oh...I didn't pay high price..it came in a estate sale...I've already made my $$ back and still have several coins left Image: LScloseup.jpg22.54 KB Image: LScoseup1.jpg25.84 KB Image: test3.jpg22.51 KB

Well now, those are much better pictures I am not sure if smaller bagmarks disqualify a coin from a technical TPG FBL, but strike-wise it is at least 95% of the way there if not FBL on both sets of lines. I just looked at the one in my collection, it is one grade higher(64), but your bell lines are better- if I had to choose, I would pick the better strike

Hi Flyagi, The lines and the bell inscription look pretty strong. I don't think the tiny scratches on the lines would prevent it grading FBL. As others have stated, this is probably not an MS-65 coin. The PCGS "book value" for a 1962 MS-65 FBL is $3000. MS-64 FBL is $300, and MS-63 FBL is only $40. If it squeaks by with an MS-64 FBL it would be worth sending it to PCGS. However, if it only makes MS-63 (or lower) the grading fee would not have been a good investment.
Food for thought, anyway.

Thanks for all the info....Glad you liked the new pics . I don't mind spending a few dollars to find out for sure. Now, what grading company do you suggest? I found 1 but I forget which one it was. I know there was no monthly fee or anything. Any advise would be appreciated.
