Posting FYI. Nice 1917 D Mercury I purchased.

Atypical Die Clash?

The following link shows 6 known or attributed Mercury dimes, that basically look like this one. Almost identical. Or maybe just random samples. Not sure. But a good find I am sure of. Some are noted as belonging to someone's 'Collection'. Hmmm. Anyway...if interested in this type coin/variety, compare my pics below to Clashes site here:

http://www.maddieclashes.com/atypic...-s-ten-cent/

I did post this in the Grading section as well if you want to leave a grade opinion. Paid ~MS-60 money for this. Here are some pic's of the coin I purchased (Actually bright mint luster. Lighting to dull and show details. This dealer does that):

Nice. Why is it not listed on mads site? Sending yours in to them?

Haha. Hey John1, as I just read your question, I was all over that site, and JUST found out I can submit for attribution there. Literally just now as I write this. That's how fresh and new I am. Lol. Anyway, I will be contacting them and work it out. Should be #7 of the six already listed. I guess. Was looking at CONECA to, but I don't think they do Die Clash attribution though they identify it. Like I said, just learning this new area as I realized my coin was special. Lol. Maybe not premium special, but definitely qualifies in the COOL department. :-) Anyway, yes, I will be getting with them. Thx

I am sure there is a premium for it to a clash collector.

Some would like that but others wanting perfect appearances would not. Also, surface appears sort of grainy. I wonder if really an MS grade?l

Nice!
I agree with just Carl. It appears a filter was applied to add contrast to photos. Otherwise; I hope it wasn't dip for too long.

Dont overthink the whole 'in someone's collection' thing. I didn't save them until BJ won one of mine @ auction.

Dont think of it being #7, but #1 for the date.

That's not just a keeper, but a screamer!

That clash would contribute to a higher value. Quite nice.

All comments Understood. With regard to dipping and grainy, etc., I have bought coins from this individual a number of times. I think I noted he does use lighting to dull coins for viewing. He also states cleaning is out of the question. Not happening. So... who knows. But actual coins are mostly very luster like. Some have some soiling or natural aging features, and some don't. But none looked cleaned or dipped, though not completely sure what dipping does besides yes, make it cleaner and less grime I guess. I did look at pictures of dipped coins. Done right it can be nice. But again.... I'll take his word for it for now. Time will tell. But the ones I have I compared to similar graded coins. No difference. Luster is as it should be, etc.

But here's the deal.....I am preparing many coins for grading. Quite a few. I 100% will be reporting back on results. Even if many busts. Lol. I'm just going to lay it all out. I'm calling it my learning curve event. See where I did well. Where I did bad. Adjust. Adapt. Move on. Word!! :-)

@BuyGuns,

Will wait for results, that's the only way to learning, and I hope I'm wrong about dipping.

No worries macmercury, but you could be right. Yes, we will find out, and will be a huge lesson learned for me.

To John1....I did contact Jason Cuvelier of MADs site. Awaiting reply.

@John1...emailed MADs 9 Sept, with pictures attached. No response. I think it's because they are only attributing minimal clash types, and my type is not one of them. Only one guy was available, and he is only doing three types I believe. Anyway, I will just submit for grading. Asked NGC. They do not attribute clashes. That's that.

John1...just to let you know....Jason Cuvelier did finally get in contact with me from my Sept 2019 request for Attribution on this Clashed Merc (MadDieClashes). He apologized and noted many obstacles at the time, and I told him apology not necessary of course.

So...he asked to have contact him again after the first week of June, and we will talk Attribution. Liked what he saw in my pictures I sent in Sept. I also told him about my 1916 Barber dime that is clashed and most likely send that to. Anyway....just an FYI on that suggestion you made for MadDieClashes.
