1. Just curious if anyone thinks this is a partial broken nose Mercury? Or full. Or just not...maybe something else, because see my #2 question. Nose may have more there looking just above at hair line. What's under her chin? Hmmm

2. Do you folks think anything going on with the back of this coin? See last picture. I just scored a 1917 D Mercury Die Clash, and I just noticed this on this coin. Can't be another Die Clash? Could it? I think my brain is fried with Die Clash syndrome. lol Anyway...open to comments. Thx

(NOTE: the last picture is my actual Die Clash 1917 D Merc, to see what I am referring to. All others the 1920 D)

Ok....I'll buy that.

What about nose? Die worn? Grease?

Is that strike through considered damage? Hurt value of coin?

Added a few more pics. Not sure if you saw them all. But thx grape.

It may be a clash. With the new pics I can see extensive polish and flow lines on the reverse, as well as remenents of a clash. Most likly a clash that was polished off the dies.

Agree, looks like a polished clash on reverse. Not sure if obverse clash adds to value.

Not a common variety, but there are very few collectors looking for one. Still a darned nice example.

Grape/all...after looking at other 1920 Mercs, I actually found others just like it. Mostly that reverse, right side impression. Obverse, nothing really except a faint little of those under chin bumps. I also read that at the Mints, if they discover these clashed dies, which QA eventually does, they will attempt to correct the die (salvage) by polishing as you say, and if successful put back in service. Of course some remnants will show for original die clash, albeit less pronounced, and acceptable. At least that is a summary and consensus of what I read. They also will collect up all die clashed coins they can find from the original problem Die once quality catches. But not all are found. Hence...we have these samples that got circulated. If that is not the case as you experienced folks see it, fire away on where I have missed it. Thx.
