I have two 1936 MS-66 Buffalo nickels in my collection. I noticed that the lettering and date on the obverse look a little thick. Could I get some opinions on whether these coins are DDO variety? Both coins look exactly the same. These three images are of one of the coins at different magnification.

thanks,

Mark

Thanks for the response. DDD is Die Deterioration Doubling? I had looked at James' book, the Liberty looks similar, but I did not understand why the date was not as thick as his images. Makes sense to me that it would be because of a poor die. The coins have lovely eye appeal, I am happy with them. Thanks again!
Rest in Peace

I can certainly understand why you would ask. Very nice photos too.

However that B in Liberty has me wondering. Sure looks odd.

The 1936 digits appear wrong to me, not so much the 9 but the 6. The bottom of the bottom loop of the 6 is thinner than the upper loop, which is wrong compared to the DDO. The 9 does look more like the DDO than my normal 1936 examples, but such is life. The liberty does look a lot like the DDO example too, which is why I originally asked.
