Very common. They were not collected at that time and circulation ate them up. That was a lot of money back then.

You can bring up the date with Nic-A-Date . Or use white vinegar & peroxide with a 3 to 1 solution . If it happens to be a 1912 make sure you apply solution where a MM would be on the reverse .

Yes , because I'm sure your coin shop treats them with acid to bring up the date . If they hit on a key coin they make money if not they lose 15¢ .
