I note that the coin is rated 97 by Numista that looks like a rare coin, however only among people who use that site. Krause on the other hand indicates by his pricing (which is of course only a rough guide) that the coin is worth under $20.
If you like the coin. the price and attribution as 1722 from the Maldive Islands fantastic. I love the rare but obscure coinage as well (I collect circulating counterfeit coins made at the time the originals circulated.)
Rarity is not an automatic guarantee of value but if your purpose is history and coin collecting is a hobby you have made out well. Enjoy your find.
swamperbob- thanks for the help. Actually I don't collect pre 1800's coins, and was looking out for information and approx value to sell it at a coin show coming up in about a week.
