1965 Quarter Sounds Like Silver Also Strange Rim Please Help

This 1965 quarter I can't figure out the rim has two spots where the silver or nickel what ever they used and the clad in the center but the strangest thing is it sounds really like silver and not a normal 65 the vending machines wouldn't even accept it but it accepts my other quarters it's so weird. It ways 5.5 g

Normal coin with heavy circulation wear and tear. The rim and the reeded edge is also normal.

I wonder if the edge has received enough wear to reduce the diameter enough that the vending machine rejects it as being "too small" to be a quarter.
