I'll certainly try to make this Forum Section worthwhile

This past week I was handed several Morgans with varying degrees of toning. Most of the time I look for some attributable feature before I consider the purchase, but sometimes I buy them just cause I like the look. This one had a nice look to it, so I bought it.

After I got it and a few others home I had a bit of time to check them out, this one turned out to be a VAM 12 (could be a 12A) "Alligator Eye" . It has some pretty nasty Clashing on the obverse and reverse, but I cannot seem to see the clashed "st" so I gotta go with 12.

For some reason my camera just cannot pick up the colors of toning from straight on, no matter what the light angle. I can only get portions to show correctly. If I angle the coin however...BAM...now the colors come out. So I am also including some pics that might show why I bought it in the first place

Common VAM , but a nice example IMO. The semi-circle on the reverse under STATES looks like another coin or something was resting on it, not really scratched, but not toned.

II, take a look under the arrow and tail feathers. May be just wishful thinking, but do I see remnents of a clashed E from LIBERTY? Can't tell from the pics about clashed st although the rest of the clashing appears heavy enough that they should be there. No doubt at least a 12. Nice.

I'll keep looking for that clashed E....I have looked and looked , but as yet I cannot see anything there. Same with the Obv st. It has the neck (wing) clash and a wreath clash at the base of the cap obv. The rev has the cap clash on the right, the profile clash on the left, but no cotton boll clash near the arrow heads. VERY tough to see this stuff through that toning I have to go with 12 until I get an electron microscope here...
