@Sarge...yea, I have checked out prices across the board for PCGS and NGC. Appreciate the heads up.
For anyone who may want to take a crack at it. First time I really looked close at this coin. I added a bunch of pictures, in different lighting, angles, etc.. You can clearly see in a few a YELLOWISH, sulfur like substance/look where that stain is. What I am trying to find out is what kind of dipping solution would cause that?
Lots of views to help in that effort. Also, I think the reverse has some evidence of the same thing, though more subtle.
Lastly...I am not in any way trying to convince you all, or even me, that maybe it's ok. I am more convinced now of your analysis in the first post, that is was a dip attempt, or at minimum got a bad stain somewhere along its long life. This is just a FYI and if anyone has an idea, fire away. Simple as that. Ignore if tired of this subject. :-)
Too bad they did that though, because it really is a nice coin in hand. Tremendous cartwheel luster all around, even through the gnarly stain. Pictures, no matter how I try, do it no justice. Anyway, all comments welcome.
