Hi coin community, I am still a rookie in coin collecting so I would love if I could get some experienced expertise to look at my coin for me. I've been going through thousands of pennies within the last 2 years and never seen this before nor have I yet to find an error coin. I'm excited about this one but if it's normal than at least I can gain some knowledge #129310; Thanks in advance

to CCF. What are you seeing as an error? Looks like environmental damage to me,maybe a metal detector find. John1

Jat330 , I do see what you are looking at. What you need to do is to note what is creating that outline. The outline is just a border between a smooth area of the coin and a pitted area. Pitting like that was not there when the coin was minted so it would not be considered a collectable error, but instead , damage after the coin was struck. The fact that the border between the two areas took the semblance of the chin could just be happenstance or even the result of skin oils on the coin around the chin repelling whatever caustic substance there was that attacked the other part of the coin. Enjoy your search!

I for one appreciate that your photo is far more useful than many posted by new members. But the coin does have the look of one that's been underground rather than struck on a flawed planchet.

Your good photography helps us see plainly.
Don't give up asking. This almost looked like a delamination when I first looked at it, so I do understand why you would ask.

"LIBERTY" is definitely post-mint damage. "UNITED" might have been Struck Through Grease, but when a coin's that much circulated, it's hard to be certain that it's not just a worn spot.
