Know master forger claims to have created this controversial cent note I say master forger not Chinese sweatshop...

"According to a new york times article hofmanns forgeries were the most sophisticated ever seen, fooling nearly all the top forgery experts in the country. Charles Hamilton, the preeminent document dealer and expert in forged manuscripts, wrote that "Mark Hofmann was unquestionably the most skilled forger this country has ever seen":

"He fooled me — he fooled everybody.. Investigators have said that Mr. Hofmann was as successful in selling forged documents in New York as he was in Utah. They say he may have collected more than $2 million selling rare documents purportedly written or signed by such literary and historical figures as Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, Jack London and Jim Bridger.. The Federal Bureau of Investigation said they could find no evidence that [his documents were] forged."

Seems to me if it truly was made by the mint or hofmann there would be more than one. What say you professionals?

This coin was discussed here a few months ago....

Hofmann was a sick genius.

If the Mint had made more than one they would have shown up by now.

If Hoffman made more than one they would have been released slowly to not affect market pricing. He and his wife divorced after he was convicted. If any coins were left laying around they would have turned up by now I would think.

I wanna say I read somewhere that he said he "only made one" anyway. Whether he told the truth back then, or if he would tell the truth now, is up for debate.

He's a cold blooded convicted murderer. That will never change.

I feel it is a real coin and was made by a Mint Employee. It's possible to be changing out the Dies and the 59 was put in and then he was distracted and forgot to change the wheat back. Made a test run and seen he messed up and then changed to a Memorial back. Or he did it on purpose. He then Tossed it in the bin not thinking about the coin being wrong, Or took it from the Mint. >>> Could happen lol ...

As long as there is a dark cloud hanging over that coin there will be no certification WITH A MONEY BACK GUARANTEE issued for it by any of the major grading companies.

That coin comes with way too much baggage and potential liability.

Anybody can believe what they want about it. Personally, I believe Hoffman made it. I've seen his work and it was amazing what he was doing almost 40 years ago! He fooled a lot of very smart people that should have known better. They let their emotions and religious beliefs cloud their common senses. People died, people went broke. Hoffman did a lot of damage.

Well that settles one thing for me. I'm going to just dump all of those I have like that one in the bank.

Without certification (won't happen), this coin will endlessly recycle in threads like this. Who will pay most for this folly?

It really has a life of it's own.
