I have questions. Lots of interesting raised dots and bits in the right obverse field. Some on the reverse, too, eagle's left wing tip. But the cameo looks very convincing.

Opinions?

It might make cameo, although the reverse might not make it.

Definitely not DMPL.

If you want a true DMPL you almost have to buy NGC or PCGS, and even then be extra attentive to the mirror fields.

I agree, not DMPL. The reverse is even iffy as a PL. Coin is not worth the asking price.

I've a susppcion there may be more to this coin. The date appears askew. With well over 100 VAMs for this date

I would say PL obv, normal rev and extremely overpriced (you can buy PCGS or NGC slabbed 1880/1881-S 62-63PL's for $100 with a bit of shopping.)

You cannot easily tell PL/DMPL from photos, since 1) the only difference is in the depth of the fields' reflectivity and 2) photos are very easily altered to exaggerate PL characteristics (reduce brightness and increase contrast.)

I have 2 of them, one MS64PL, one MS65 both in PCGS slabs. I paid $114 PL, $100 for the other. Have had a couple years but if this one makes you ask questions, find another one. They are out there.
