my father recently passed away and left me a gold plated 10,000 yen (printing?)plate from 1972. I'm looking to see what the best method would be in obtaining its current value, if any, and the best means of selling it. Any suggestions? Thanks

It's difficult to say. At times on ebay, I see it selling at face value and yet there are no buyers, and at other times, it might go over and there are buyers. Currently exchange rate of 10,000 JPY is approximately 85USD.

I hate to say it, but it might not go too high as you would like it to be, although I do believe that it should be worth at least 50-70 dollars, not by it's face value. Does the gold plated plate has any additional packaging, like the mint box etc? Those do add up quite a bit if you still have them.

You might be able to sell it here but you will need to quality the requirements of this forum. Otherwise, ebay or your local numismatics dealer might be the only chance out, although I really wouldn't recommand you to sell to your local dealer.
