Looking under my magnifying glass you can see full steps on this penny! I've never sent anything to grade because I'm not sure on what is worth doing or how to, or who to use. Any help appreciated

It looks nice, but their are thousands of 1959 LMC that look this good or better. I saw a mint sealed bag of 1959 cents for sale this week. Look at the price on a coin like this and figure if it's not worth more than $150 you really don't want to spend the money to have it graded. Some people even say coins worth $250 or less aren't worth grading.

Both obverse fields seem to have issues in this pic.

It's in the plastic still but with a naked eye it looks like it just came from the mint an hour ago. I'll take it out and try better shot

We aren't trying to discourage you from looking for NGC or PCGS or even ANACS grading, but very common coins need to have VERY high grades to be worthy of the expense. In the case of the coin you show I'm sure it's 65, or maybe 66 Red, but a 66 Red isn't worth enough to qualify. A lovely example well worth a 2x2, but probably not a TPG.

Here are better pics outside the card. I don't know if full steps means anything for an LMC but this one has it

That's a proof, not a business strike. The spot on the reverse hurts it. Appears to have light abrasions or fingerprints in the obverse fields. PR-64 (worth about $4)

Oh well. Back to the drawing board. I gave 50c for it so it's a small win

So are proof coins less desirable or worth less than higher grade business strike coins? I get the impression that nobody is impressed with proof coins. I'm somewhat new to this. I've about given up on errors and focusing more on high grade coins.

Proof struck coins are generally more desirable than business struck coins, especially the modern silver proof ones

This is a Proof with enough marks to make the grading cost more than the coin is worth.
