Another new lens setup shot. I found more than 25 areas struck through on the obverse and five on the reverse.

Please let me know if you think it could be an adjustment strike as well as struck through. My notes follow the photos.

This nickel has areas that are struck through on both the obverse and reverse. The obverse areas are mostly in IGWT, Jefferson's profile, Ponytail and at the bottom of the bust. The reverse shows an area that's struck through the steps into the right side of the Monticello, above the building and to the left of the M and on the final O of MONTICELLO.

As for the possible adjustment strike: The center of the image of Jefferson is very shallow and the flat center area seems untouched by deepest parts the die. The metal at the cheekbone, jaw and ear/hair area are all on the same plane and it has the look of roller marks found on a planchet's surface. The rim is washed out at the K:12 and K:6 position.

The reverse center is also flat with very few details of the West Portico of the Monticello showing. Most of the letters in E PLURIBUS UNUM are weak and the rim is also very poorly struck up at K:12.

Thanks for viewing and replying to this post.

Looks more like a VLDS than an adjustment strike to me,mainly because the rims look full. Congrats on 1000 posts,is there a contest in the near future?

I agree with John on the rims but think it has been Struck Through Grease, mostly, which has affected the details.
Below WE looks to be struck through something solid and parts of the surface seem like it may have been struck by pitted dies.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

Messy die. We should have a designation as a plain old messy die

The lighting needs a bit more diffusing. (Possible plastic grocery bag would do the trick to remove just a bit of glow)

I posted the following images on another topic dealing with "ghosting" and Coop asked about the coin.

Here's the second set of images for this coin.

Hi, Yokozuna. Nice coin. I can see very good details of your posted coin (side by side) with 'Click for a larger image.' That has more diffused light. The ghosting is more evident on the side by side coin. The brighter picture on this post lost the 'bust ghosting' only the 'head ghosting' showed. Is ghosting supposed to include head and bust together? Can it be headless or bust less?
LOL. I hope I, the newbie am making sense.
Thanks.
