Hello! I have very recently gotten into coin collecting, and I have a question regarding one of my coins.

After looking at various other 1795 Flowing hair dollars, it seemed that they all had Liberty with slightly more "pointy" hair around the lower back, whereas this coin's Liberty had more rounded, not as "sharp" hair.

If someone could explain to a newcomer exactly what type and which variety of coin I have, I would very much appreciate it.

I apologize if the quality of the images isn't superb.

Thank you in advance.

To me, that looks like a poorly cast fake. The design looks NOTHING like the real one and it has a 'shallow' appearance.

Hi,
Here's a certified 1795 dollar. While there are some differences between dies for 1795, check out the differences on Liberty and the eagle, such as hair, eagle's head, rim of coin, etc. Source: Heritage Auctions.

It's a bad counterfeit. The rims are an obvious giveaway.
Does it have edge lettering or is it reeded ?

Hope you didn't pay much money for it.

For me, the first dead giveaway was the horrible eagle on the reverse. A very poorly made counterfeit.

Agreed. My friend in Singapore sent me a photo of one she has. Same poor bird.

Welcome Daec! by the way you can edit your first post and remove the parenthese after ".jpg" and the photo will show up the way the rev did ( I believe).

Thank you for the replies. I figured as much about it being a counterfeit, and no I did not pay much for it (nothing, in fact).

I don't think I've ever paid any attention to that type of coin, because it's way out of my range. But it took me about 2 seconds to say "obvious fake."
