Since the price of silver is down, where would a good place be to buy it?

The way I hear it...anywhere you can get it ! Good luck finding any larger amounts of silver. And if you do...be prepared to pay top dollar for it. The shop I work in has...enough let's say, but we sold the last 3 100 oz bars today that he is willing to sell, and countless ASE's and small one oz rounds. Try a search on the web about silver contracts...This could be the big rise, supply is falling far behind demand. If you buy...do it fast, silver jumped about a dollar today, and gold almost 100... the after market is even higher. Good Luck !

Try getting 90% coinage from a dealer if you can find one, it may be your best bet at obtaining silver at a reasonable mark up right now.

I have never bought from them, but their price for junk silver seems reasonable. Actually a little cheaper than APMEX. Shipping is cheaper too.

Well said InfiniteInterest.

I too work in a shop and I'm sure you know that dealers are not selling at what one can buy silver on "paper" for. Finding it is the first challenge. APMEX and Tulving I trust but am very wary of those selling a lot of "paper" silver. Gotta wonder if they can back it up.

We just ordered 10 100oz bars from a refinery in Ohio. 4 are already spoken for. Englehard isn't even producing them anymore so expect a real healthy premium there.

I'm also in total agreement with seeking out 90%. So much in agreement, in fact, that today I traded in a one ounce Krugerand for junk silver.
I look at the ratios of silver/gold. I originally traded in silver to buy the gold. Ratio was good so I went back the other way. Gained 15 ounces of silver in the process.

Now granted my boss made money and that's fine. He has it after all.
Putting it up on ebay or anywhere else takes time. I wanted to do this TODAY.

One can do this on "paper" at this point with few hitches. I do feel, however, that this will not last. There's more paper out there than there is silver.

Get the physical product I say. If you consider ordering from a big seller and they tell you 2 months or so I'd ask A LOT of questions.

Look at it this way. If they refund your money in 2 months and the price of silver has gone up another $3 per ounce you have lost. You could have been using that money elsewhere getting the real thing.

Just my 90% worth as it were.

90% circulated , common date coins are often referred to as "junk silver" . I don't have to agree, but that's what they call it. Notice there is no "junk gold" even though much of it is treated just like the "junk silver"- just plain bullion.

I suspect that sometime in the future that moniker may fade...

Oops!

Guess I should have clarified on that Michelle K but it is a commonly used term.

If it were real "junk" I wouldn't be trading gold for it that's for sure!

Michelle K welcome to CCF. The "junk silver" is know as a coin with no other higher value then its melt price. Due to its year or wear, damage, ect. I have found lots of good deals on line where people are selling coins for melt value only. Usually its in a old bank coin bag where the coins are banging into one another and the coins look like they have been played through 100,000 casino slot machines.
