I had my bank order me two boxes of halves this time. I figured with my luck I would probally not find anything and would be ready to quit searching for awhile.
Well after the first box I thought I was probally right. Out of the whole box, I found 0 keepers. No silver, not even a high quality coin in the box.

But the second box was another story. I pulled out 16 40% silvers, 4 90%, and 3 from proof sets (a 1988, 1985, 1982). So that wound up being my best box yet.

But now a question for the other roll searchers out there. How common is it to find proof coins in these rolls? My second box I found 2 in the same roll and then the 4th box I found these 3.

I've probably searched 5 boxes this year and found two proofs. 1982S and 1997S. Last two boxes were Zippo with the exception of a handful of 2001P, 2002P/D, 2003D and 2004D. I did get some 40% and 90% to make it worth while. nlp

ive beensearching for a little over a year and have found around 30 proofs so plus 3 silver proofs, the most common to find proofs are from the early seventies. Indeed I have found some 1971 proofs that are so circulated if they didnt have the s mint mark they would be impossible to tell the difference from regular strike coins

Great finds!

It may get to the point where finding proofs will be as common, or even more common, than finding silver.

I have only found 2 so far. A '68 and a '71. When I search halves, I just look at the edge 20 at a time, I found the '71 by accident.

I beginning to wonder what I would find if I actually checked the dates.

Congrats on your second box, even when you average it with the first box, still respectable finds.

All the proofs I have found so far have been late 80's (82, 85, 2-88, 89.) In the 4 boxes I have went through I am averaging 10 silver a box and now 1 proof per box.

I am with Bowfin - I only look at the edge, 20 coins at a time. However, I am getting pretty good at picking out the edges of a proof coin I must say.

All in all, I have found about 10 proofs, from 75 up to a 2008 (go figure.

I would say they are pretty common, I usually get 1-2 every 2 - 3 boxes.

I've never found a proof but usually can snag a few NIFC in each box.

I look for edge first then no "FG" and the dates. I have found clad proofs this way as the silver dosen't always draw across the copper. I also found an AU 87 and several no "FG's" The last two $500 boxes only produced one 67' and an 80's proof.
Keep at it the jackpot may be around the bend.
