I have the original cd and software installed and working
there are a number of software upgrades available and firmware
will it add better function. And what about this magic lantern?

Lenses I have are
cannon efs 18-55 3.5-5-6 af-is II
cannon 75-300 af 1.4-5.6 III
Tamron 28-75 af xr di macro 67 ao9

I have a number of cheap FD lenses and converts to fit
I am going to shoot coins as well

The only reason I have found to upgrade is if you buy a new computer and the old software doesn't work well anymore.

Magic Lantern can give you some functions like focus stacking and such but you won't need those for coins.

I just upgraded my computer (about 12 years old) to a new one with Windows 10, I was using a Canon Rebel XS and yes the soft ware works on the new setup.

I try to stick with old, working software if possible, only upgrading when absolutely necessary. I hate solving problems over and over and over, and that's what software upgrade usually means.
